A Little Type 1 Talk Inspiration

There’s still time for you to test out our new Type 1 Talk events tool on Facebook and take advantage of our two special opportunities!  For those that may have missed the first two posts about the Type 1 Talk re-launch, there’s a trip to Washington, DC for JDRF’s annual Government Day at stake.  We’ve also got a special 50% off “No Sugar Added” poetry book deal going on through the end of June thanks to our partnership with the Diabetes Hands Foundation.

So if you’d like to take part in these two awesome deals, now’s the time to get inspired and share your event on our Facebook site.  And if you can’t organize an event, you should head over to see if any events have been scheduled in your area!  Lots of our Type 1 Talk users are looking for new people to take part in their events.

For some ideas and inspiration, here’s a little recap of some of the recent events that have been shared on the Type 1 Talk platform:

  • Lorraine Stiehl of CA partnered with another organization, CIRM,
(California Institute for Regenerative Medicine) to host a Type 1 Talk
event. A group of people got together before the official event started
to discuss ways they could get involved with some JDRF programs like
Promise to Remember Me. Lorraine also ordered some of the TuDiabetes “No Sugar Added” poetry books
to share with attendees.  Lorraine says the book “is a terrific ice
breaker!” (If you’d like to purchase 3 or more books for $5/each, please
email us at advocacy@jdrf.org for the coupon code.)

  • D-blogger, Scott Strange, recently posted about his experience
at a JDRF Kansas City Adult Type 1 meet-up that had been posted on the
Type 1 Talk site.  You can read more about their event here.  Be sure to check out the comments section where you’ll hear from fellow d-blogger, Mike Hoskins, who mentioned their own Adult Type 1 meet-up (also posted on the Type 1 Talk Facebook tool) that took place in Indianapolis.
  • Debbie Evans of MN hosted a “State Laws, Research, and You!” event in her home where she shared the latest information about MN legislative happenings impacting type 1 research.  Check out a photo from her event below.
  • There have also been a handful of support groups, social gatherings, and
just general “getting to know you” meet-ups popping up on the site.

Again, whether you are looking to organize a meet up or find an event to attend, you can see what’s going on by adding the Type 1 Talk Facebook application. Be sure to check back regularly to see if new events have been posted or to participate in discussions on the fan page

Have you attended a local event that you’d like to share with us?  Do you have a neat idea for an event you’d like to see in your community?  Please share your thoughts, suggestions, and requests in the comments section below.
