What can I do? She is worried about her weight, craves only junk food and then gets depressed and refuses to eat a regular meal.
I'm newly diagnosed (Jan 9th 2013 - yikes!) and have a few questions about blood sugar testing… I have the Freestyle freedom lite and although it's awesome how little blood is needed (especially compared to the monster ones at the hospital), I noticed that sometimes I will get crazy different results. If i test multiple times within a few minutes I will get readings 30 or so off, and if I switch to testing fingers on the opposite hand it will do the same thing.

I've been really obsessive about checking my sugars since I'm still trying to listen to how my body feels when experiencing highs or lows, and now I'm doubting my meter! I did call Customer Care at Freestyle and they are overnighting me a testing solution, but I am curious if anyone else has ever gotten crazy meter readings or ever had a wrong meter? Maybe I'm being paranoid or nervous about how much insulin to use...

Thank you! :)

I am new here, and relatively new to diabetes. My daughter was diagnosed right after her 10th birthday in October of 2010. She has been really great about taking the shots and counting her carbs, etc., but we have been finding small candy wrappers and snacks in her pockets and hidden in her bedroom. She has admitted to sneaking food, and we have explained why this is dangerous, but nothing seems to make her stop. It is really frustrating!

I am a wife of a Type 1 diabetic. My husband was diagnosed at 26 years old. That was nearly 6 years ago. He is doing wonderful with his diabetes management, thanks to our access to good health insurance. The problem is the cost. When he was initially diagnosed, we were living in Vegas and I had great coverage. We had to move back to Colorado for him to take over his family's company, so we obtained group health insurance through his business. We pay a premium of about $950 per month for a family of four, co-pays are $30/$60, prescriptions $10/$35/$70, deductible is $3,000/individual with medical paid at 100% after deductive. My husband has a pump and is in the process of getting his CGM. His A1C level is great and he loves the pump, so we don't want to go back to the pens. But we pay $1800 out of pocket for medical expenses monthly!! (including premium, co-pays and his prescriptions). Now we found out that his pump will cost an additional $400 per month just for the parts, which insurance doesn't cover. We have United. Can anyone suggest other options? Any plan suggestions? There has to be some sort of relief.....

Airport Security and Pumps?

I'm going on a school trip to New York in March and I haven't been on a plane since I've been diagnosed. (drinking all the time, being crankier than normal, sleeping ALL the time, and complaining about being nauseous) But I kinda just let it go and didn't say anything because my family claims I'm paranoid because I'll occasionally point out potential symptoms or check one of my siblings blood sugar (Im the oldest of 8 kids, only type 1 so far, dxd 2 years ago at 16) Anyways, so this morning at about 9 AM he complained again of feeling nauseous (he stayed home from school) so I went ahead and tested his fasting blood sugar (after washing his hands) and it was 132. An hour later, 30 mins after he drank some orange juice it was 157. So then, I was just curious, I had him check for ketones. They were moderate. So my mom made a doc appt. with our pediatrician. When they got there at 11:30 his blood sugar was down to 110, but he still had moderate ketones. Our doctor had no idea so she paged the endo at children's hospital and sent them home. So my mom made sure he drank a lot of water all day and two hours after he ate lunch she checked his blood sugar again and it was 190... The endo just called like an hour ago and said the ketones, high fasting blood sugar and high post-meal blood sugar is probably just caused by a virus and left it at that. What? Has anyone else heard that that could be a cause for ketones? Could this really be anything other than diabetes?? (His ketones are now small)

It hasn't done that since I've had my pump which I got in July (was diagnosed in June), so it is strange to me. Does this happen to anyone else? What does it mean that I hit a nerve or muscle or something? or infections? My numbers have also been abnormal since this has started. So if anyone knows more about this could they fill me in? Is there anything I can do to prevent it or stop it from bruising?

Did i over react?

So im just wondering if i over reacted... the other night i went out to eat at Village Inn with my mom and my brother and when we ordered out drinks me and my mom both made it clear that me and my brothers drinks needed to be diet because we were diabetic ( my m om always does this) and the lady was like ok and when she brought our drinks back i took a couple drinks of mine and so did my brother and they were both regular and just from the taste we knew they werent diet and so when the waitress came back to the table we told her she gave us regular when we ordered diet and the waitress said oh well its not a big deal ill be back as soon as i can with diet but u can drink those for now and i was like no we cant we are diabetics and she was like so and we explained diabetes to her and she was like i know what it is and she just didnt even seem to think giving us the wrong drink was bad.. later that night i found myself with a high blood sugar. Was it wrong of is to over react??

just back from the doctor and I need to drop 10 pounds!!!

I was never really an anxious person before i had diabetes but now its kind of bad sometimes.

I get really anxious that im going to have lows in public places. Especially in class at school. I dont like checking my blood sugar in a small class because i dont like attracting attention to myself. i know that it shouldnt matter but i really dont like to do that. so i rely on how i feel instead and sometimes i start to get really anxious that it feels like im getting a low, but it just turns out to be something like a panic attack. My heart starts to race and i get really scared and start to sweat. so sometimes its hard to tell the difference between a low and that and i have some sugar and throw my blood sugar out of wack.

i was just wondering if anyone else had problems with anxiety because of diabetes, and how you deal with it.

thanks!

In the mean time...

So her appointment isn't until November 8th. Just realized that it's exactly 11 months after Bree's MRI, spooky!

What do YOU think we should be doing in the mean time? Checking BG? How often? Or not check and fly by the seat of our pants?! Our PCP gave us a script for test strips- only 50.

Thanks for your guidance, I sure do need it!
