Fasting sugar was 152
Diagnosed April 29, 2005; age 18

152 is a pretty high fasting number. Did he wake up and have apple juice in the middle of the night or anything?
If not, I'd call the doc. If he says, "Oh, those number are totally normal for a kid with a recent fever," great. If not, well, the earlier you catch D, the better his early treatment should go (because of the honeymoon).
Type 1 at 30
i would call the doc asap. can never be to safe and learn to early. hoping for the best for you and your family.
ugh. Call dr. Let us know how it goes. We're all praying for you and him. I really hope you don't have to join our little club. (Not because you aren't a nice person, I'd just rather we didn't have to have this T1 Parents club.)
No, no apple juice, no sweets or treats after he fell asleep (about 8:30) Daddy tested him at 9:45 this morning--pre toast and eggs. I called the doctor and have an appointment for Monday morning and we're still waiting for the keytone test.....
Thanks for all your thoughts guys!
Melindahave an appointment for Monday morning
I'll be thinking of you, Melinda. I know some of what you are feeling. My oldest daughter was diagnosed at age four, six years ago. I myself was diagnosed at age two, 34 years ago. Try not to stress too much this weekend. It's totally possible the virus is causing his BG to be slightly raised. Good to take him in and checked out... and if you get that diagnosis, know that you are still not alone.
working to cure diabetes.
Oh Melinda, I sure hope your baby doesn't have diabetes. Either way, we're here for you!

I'm hoping for the best. I hope that he doesn't end up being diagnosed; however, those numbers a quite a bit high. I can only imagine how you must feel. At least you caught it early if he does end up being diagnosed. I'm wishing for the best for your family.
If the news is not good at least he has an experienced mom to teach him how to take care of himself.

True. Not that I am really wanting him to have to do this too. I'm waiting it out,, I don't wanna test him like a crazy woman--it breaks my heart (but I know I should probably get a two hour post meal). I'm keeping my personal knowledge and other advice from you all in mind. He still has a fever so I'm hoping that that's what's causing all of this.
Breathing a little easier. Keytones were negative.
We'll see what the dr says on Monday and take it from there.
You may want to do a fasting blood sugar check each morning before your appointment on Monday. I'm sure that info will be helpful to the doctor.
I know you must be so anxious right now, and I have to admit so am I. Please let us know how he's doing over the weekend- and how you're holding up. We're here for you Melinda.

My little nondiabetic sister's blood sugar was at 206 the other day after she ate candy. I told my mom not to worry too much because I thought it was over 250 that one had to start looking for diabetes...it makes sense. I mean, that's when ketones start showing up, right? None the less, my sister didn't get to eat much more sweets that night.
Hope everything is going well with your son! I'm sure he's going to be alright :)

If God thinks I can handle it, bring it on!
Elena, your sister's test results are concerning. Here's what the Mayo clinic says about diagnosing diabetes through glucose testing:
This pretty much matches up with what my doc told me after my first glucose test that caused her to investigate further.
:(
Elena, I wouldn't worry yet though, I remember testing my friend on separate occasions right after he had a lot of candy and he'd be at 13 (232) or higher, and he never did develop diabetes. I think you should keep checking her though
