  • Does anyone out there have experience with a type 1 diagnosis of a spouse?  In particular one that is very physically fit and health consciuos.  I really need help dealing with all of this. Thanks!

  • A great book to start with is "Think Like a Pancreas: A Practical Guide to Managing Diabetes with Insulin."

The information will be overwhelming for some time. Take it one thing at a time.  I'm 40 years w/o complications so you have a long life ahead of you.

Keep reading and posting here and on tuDiabetes for information.

  • my hubby is also type 1, but he was diagnosed long before we met. our son, however, was diagnosed last year. It has been a hard year in a lot of ways, but it is amazing how quickly one can learn to manage type 1 diabetes.

    Another good site is diabeticrockstar.com

  • I agree to take it slow and you'll learn all this new information eventually. He's lucky to have you on board b/c I really think it's helpful to have a partner to bounce ideas off. (ie. It's right before bed and I'm high -- do you think I should correct my full correction or will I go low, etc etc). My husband's also great about checking to make sure I brought insulin before we leave the house -- I've been known to forget. This didn't really answer your question, but I want you to know that it will seem overwhelming at first, but while it's still hard later, it will become much more managable with time.

I hope both of you will continue to check in on this site for support and ideas!
