3 months and 9 days... diagnosed Dec 15, 2011, age 22.

I was diagnosed over 32 years ago at the age of 17 months in 1979.

about a month and a half ago, 2/15/12, age 17

Hey,  I was diagnosed at age 17, 39 years ago!  I'm getting old!

I'm coming up on 27 years in July

8 years :) exactly half my life right now

WOW!  I am amazed and in awe of those who have been living with d for so many years.  For those who posted thirty plus years, specifically 60 years, please give those of us dealing with recent diagnoses your take on d.  Has your quality of life been compromised and if so, how?  What is your attitude towards d and has this been helpful to you?  Any long-tem health issues?  Has your experience shown a direct relationship between a1c and long-term health issues?  Please help support us through this initial darkness.

to Beckyg.  I've been dealing with d for 39 years, so far no complications, thank God!  It really hasn't styfled my life much, outside of the annoying blood tests, finger sticks, counting carbs, shots, etc.  Early on there was no test called A1c so who knows how high mine were.  We had to check urine which turned out to be totally inaccurate, but was as good as it was then.  Having a cgm, insulin pump and glucometer and the knowledge given me about counting carbs really has made tighter control much easier. I notice excersise makes my readings swing less too.  I know there are differing degrees of diabetic control.  Mine seems to be easier than some.  I worked with a fellow diabetic a few years ago and she could go high if I simply snuck up on her and said "boo".  It is a perplexing disease.  

17 years coming up on 18 on may 1 day after my 27 bday

Just hit 2 years in March, I was 17 just before my Senior Prom

15 years, I was diagnosed at age 3 a few months after my father died.

10 years: 2/19/02, 10 days after my 9th birthday

20 almost 21 years.. diagnosed 02/20/1992

7 years now
