My biggest annoyance from non-diabetics is when they tell me whether or not I should eat something sugary. What about you?

Diabetes dont have me I have diabetes
when they tease me with sugar and say " you cant eat this because you have diabetes". that just makes me so angry.

Usually when I test my sugar in public I get a, "Oh, does that hurt?"
To which I sometimes reply, "No, I can't feel the little needle stabbing into my skin. And no I'm not emotionally hurt by the fact that I'll have to do this many times a day for the foreseeable future. And its not my fault I have to do this. No that doesn't hurt at all."
Not that I am a sadist, but sometimes I need to blow off some type 1 diabetes steam.

What's even more sad is when you realize that sometimes it doesn't hurt that much and that you're losing the feeling in your fingertips from stabbing them thousands of times over the years.
It's ironic how the people who ask that are the people who would do anything to avoid just doing it once.
Living life as it comes...
I once told someone I used injections and insulin Then they told me about someone they knew who did not use insulin at all. They were well controlled by diet and exercise. Then I was asked why didn't I try harder and get better control so I could stop using insulin. That individual thought all diabetics could improve their control and use only diet and exercise. That was a long time ago. Nothing like that has happend since.

Someone once asked me if injecting insulin made me "high". They said, "You know... like drugs?"
After I finished laughing hysterically, it became a teaching moment.

I think because of my age, everyone thinks I am type 2. Then comes you don't look that fat, after I explain that I am type 1, comes my favorite "Oh, the bad one." There's a good diabetes????? LOL

Good One Kim! I have also had this happen and after 2 hours of explaining it, they asked "So no, you don't get...like high?" I had to just say no and stop!
Keith, I find that funny as well! Nothing like having the needle up, thumping it and the stabbing yourself! The looks you can get! They are good for the laugh though.
Back on the topic a bit. I have to say that hearing "Oh, well, you can't have that because it has sugar" has to be the one that gets me. I absolutely hate hearing that!

My daughter likes to say, when eating out "Daddy do you have to do your drugs here" LOL if I see someone who give us a funny look, I roll my eyes and groan!!! Yes, I have a weird sense of humor!!!
Haha, this is too funny! When I'm with my close friends and I have to go do my insulin, one of them always says, "you going to go shoot up now?" as a joke. I think that's what some people honestly believe we're doing!!
I hate it when people say in referrence to giving yourself injections, "oh, how can you even do that?" Hmmm, I don't know, because I WANT TO LIVE!!!
I have heard that one too. People will say, "but you're skinny."
