I never eat a bun. But then again I'm a Bernstein Betty and a manual injection for some white bread just isn't worth it to me...

But you would be injecting for the protein/fat in the hotdog wouldn't you? Granted both digest slower, they can still increase your BG in the long run. It's only 24g of carbs. Depending what your ratio is, it might not matter...just eat multiple hotdogs (6-10) and it will make bolusing worth it :)...what? I'm the only *** who eats that much? Nevermind, carry on :P
Agreed... no bun for the hot dog (s). Sauerkraut and mustard are free foods... have as much as you'd like. And, if you really must have a "bun," try a 1/2 slice of whole grain wheat bread with it.Throw in a hamburger (or two) without buns, but watch the ketchup... very little if any.Turkey and chicken burgers are also an excellent alternative for those who limit red meat.Barbecued chicken *** is great and fish, even if it's salmon which is a little fatty, is even better.Don't forget you can grill the vegetables too, shish kabob style. Peppers (green and red) are excellent,as is sliced zucchini, but they do have some carbs. Onions and tomatoes are sweeter and, if eaten, must be in moderation.
So that's our menu for the FIRST ANNUAL JUVENATION COOKOUT!

(What you won't find at the cookout: Potato chips, pretzels, french fries, onion rings (aww...)ice cream, cakes, pies, macaroni salad, etc...you know the rest. Beer?)
Hey, come on, is there really a candy bar worth dying for?
Act always as if the future of the Universe depended on what you did, while laughing at yourself for thinking that whatever you do makes any difference.

I take insulin for Carbs, not protein and fat.
Paul, I think we could have a lovely meal! I will make some delicious deviled eggs with curry for an appetizer! We could have a crutonless Caesar Salad. We could slightly sear some Organic Beef Tenderloin, of course taking care that the center is still cold and bloody. No need to cook the nutrition and flavor out of such a perfect, lean and nutritious protein source. I could also whip up some Garlic and Parmesan Cauliflower Mash with a side of al dente French Green beans.
i'm popping in here a bit(a lot) late.
hardboiled eggs.
my mom's deviled eggs are great too.
i can't get enough lately! i eat two for breakfast whenever i get the chance. granted, i can't afford eggs often, but when i have them i love to eat them hardboiled!!
(which is weird..cuz ive had a love hate relationship with them. when i was pregnant the SMELL of egg made me wanna puke and almost a year later that seems to finally be stopping. before that i loved to have sunny side up eggs. i can't stand them all the time, but at least i can eat them again without wanting to puke/actually puking!)
now i want another hardboiled egg....damnit.

I just ate some hot dogs without the buns for supper, delicious!
I eat "Biltong" for a low carb snack, it's kinda like the equivilant of your beef jerkey, except that it's dried meat, not cooked at all. (I know it sounds gross, but it really isn't!)
I like Coke Zero, Pepsi Max, Tab and Fanta Zero for sodas, don't know which ones is available in USA.
Since it says that Juvenation is funded by an UNRESTRICTED (educational) grant from Novo Nordisk, do you think they'd have a problem picking up the tab for the FIRST ANNUAL JUVENATION COOKOUT as wll as flying us all in to some central location? It would be great PR for Novo. (Is anyone from Novo reading these messages?)
good luck with that one, paul. let's make it in someplace FUN not convenient.... like hawaii. or europe. i actually like iowa. we have tons of open fields we can romp and be diabetic in. i dunno about anyone else, but i'm all about buns with my hotdog. now if only i weren't allergic to wheat...

Wolf i do carpentry and construction. And carpentry its anywhere from framing to roofing and even masonry. i was doing concrete work all day yesterday. I usually do a 10 hour day. We get the regular lunch breaks. I eat my lunch regularly. no insulin shot and i usually get low a few hours later. the lantus has been doing great. but a few hours after lunch...with good sugars...i get really hungry and i eat wheat/cheese crackers and some low carb lil snacks. but im ready for a full meal at that point. and i cant shake it off until i actually eat. them im regular the rest of the night. its the lunch to dinner gap where im having a problem. i can take a break whenever i want for the most part.

I'm going to reply here rather than reading to the end of the thread, like I should.
Given your lows are after lunch I'm assuming you are taking your Lantus in the morning rather than at night. Is that correct? If so you might try taking the lantus at night.
Eating more at lunch isn't the solution. I'd try eating 1/2 a sandwich with double meat and cheese 90 minutes after lunch. So one slice of bread of carbs and a lot of meat and cheese protein. The extra protien and fat in the cheese will carry the bread carbs out over a longer time period.
And please reassure me that you are carrying one of those tiny meter in your pocket to test when up on the roof.

Hi C,
I haven't been too many places in my life, but I did have the pleasure of visiting Fairfield, Iowa back in 1986 when I was doing business with Ed Beckley, one of the early pioneers in the infomercial field. It was during the middle of Winter, so although there was snow on the grown, I do remember driving through some very beautiful open fields and farmland. I think the cookout would be FUN no matter where we held it because of the company. Too bad it's only a fantasy :(
(Novo... are you listening?)
I don't like hotdog buns. Well I don't like hotdogs period. I think they are nasty. I guess it's because I saw how they were made.

Yeah I'm a Diabetic but it's not gonna get to me because I won't let it!
I'm curious. Really, I'm not being smart-alecky. I just don't know. Does yogurt inherently raise blood sugar, or just the ways in which yogurt is processed for commercial consumption. I make homemade yogurt for me (not diabetic and my son won't touch it) in a yogourmet machine and use just 1/2 cup plain 2% greek-strained yogurt (brand is Fage---ingredients are skimmed milk and cream and active cultures) and 1/2 gallon of organic (whatever THAT means) 2% milk. Is it something about the milk or something about the other things that commerical yogurt makers add to yogurt?

I'm not really sure what causes it to raise. All I know is that it makes mine skyrocket. I've gotten to where I don't eat any yogurt.
