  • Gina,

Maybe people need to work jobs that actually require the traditional blood sweat and tears. These "snacks" do nothing for me. Cheese...yeah that does a lot for a snack when you have high cholesterol.

My job is heavy duty. and i cant find a low carb snack that helps keep me balanced. and anything else i try just boots my sugar.

  • Sugar free jell-o, if I'm in the mood for sweet.  Walnuts and almonds mixed together but no more than 2-4 tablespoons per day because they are very fattening.  WASA original rye (7g carbs) and other WASA crackers.  Hillshire sandwich meets - Honey Ham and Turkey.  Muenster and Jarlsberg cheese, but not too much because they are also fattening.  Chocolate whey protein "shake" made with water (not milk) after every workout.  1/2 Grapefruit before workout has just the right amount of carbs to sustain workout without reducing insulin. No other fruit.  Hamburger and steak, not really a snack but they are low carb - NO BREAD.  If bread, just 1 slice of whole grain high fiber - max of 1 per day.  Canned spinach, lettuce with small amount of regular (not fat free) salad dressing.  Coffee with 1 tablespoon of cream (not milk).

Hey, come on, is there really a candy bar worth dying for?

Act always as if the future of the Universe depended on what you did,
while laughing at yourself for thinking that whatever you do makes any difference.

  • Paul, I love some WASA crackers!!!! YUMMO! And yes...I love me so cheese. The best thing about low carb snacks, for me personally, is when I get a high Blood Glucose level...when I give myself a correction and my bloog glucose goes down...I begin to get super hungry. To satisfy my craving, cheese and lunchmeat help cover the hunger. Wolf, Im like you, I can't survive solely off of low carb snacks, but sometimes they are nice due to not wanting to take insulin to just have to eat again later. Did I mention all this talk about snacks make me just that much more hungry (:

  • A message for Wolf:

Although I'm not the moderator for this website so perhaps it's not my place to say anything, I feel compelled to remind you that this website is intended to provide support and helpful advice.  I can appreciate your views about this snack subject, but to suggest that the rest of us do not have worthwhile "blood, sweat and tears" jobs?  In my opinion, that is pushing it a bit too far.

I would suggest that you take into consideration the other members' thoughts and feelings when you are replying to a post.  Also, maybe the "blogging" feature is one that you would like to explore; it'll allow you to vent without being disrespectful.

Sorry, I just had to speak up.

  • Everyone views their job differently. While phsycial labor has only been a portion of my jobs in the past, I still say I have a lot of blood sweat and tears in what I do :o) I work very hard to try to help the community stay happy and healthy. Wolf is entititled to his opinion, just as everyone else is, even if we don't like or agree with them. I've said this before, but I think life would be incredibly boring if everyone agreed with me. It keeps things interesting. :o)

For some, low carb snacks are enough to satisfy hunger until the next big meal. For others, possibly Wolf (who might do a lot of physical labor), low carb snacks simply aren't enough to meet his needs. I worked at a summer camp for 4 summers. It was 3 months--the entire summer--and I never had a chance to sit down. For me, low carb snacks simply weren't cutting it at the time because there was a lot of physical activity, and I was burning through all the calories I consumed. Now, my job is a little more sedentary--though it does require me to be physically active at times, so I'm happier with eating less.

Everyone is different! I love cheese which is low carb, but I also really like to pair it with some crackers. Working in a diabetes clinic, I've seen just about everything in regards to eating habits and diabetes care. What works for some, may not work for others.

The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.

Heaven forbid we be able to express our personal views and opinions on a discussion board which has been developed for exactly that.

  • Don't get me wrong guys...  I love engaging in candid discussions.  I just feel (and, as you've pointed out, I'm entitled to express my feelings!) that there is a certain way to express oneself, without putting down others.  Again, in a nutshell (reminder:  I love nuts!  LOL), I like to call this RESPECT!

  • Paul-

I love WASA rye crackers, also! Throw some cheese and turkey on them, and it's a great low carb snack!

  • My personal fav is suger-free instant jello pudding. I know, it sounds nasty, but it's SO GOOD!!! And you get a HUGE bowl for 6 carbs and (I think) 2 grams of fat. Yum!

  • Hard boiled eggs are good, too. (=

  • Shrimp cocktail by far!
