No, not that recess (sorry kids!). This type of recess is what we get especially excited for here at JDRF Advocacy. The House of Representatives recess starts today, which means that your Member of Congress is home right now!

The Representatives will be home for a full week, making this the optimum time to schedule a Promise Campaign meeting. Members are expecting to meet with their constituents at this time, so Campaign coordinators are using this recess to their full advantage! Want to know how you can help your local coordinator? In addition to scheduling meetings in their district offices, Member of Congress will also be around town at community events. These already-scheduled events are great times to have an impromptu meeting with your Representative. You can help by checking your local paper to see if your Member of Congress is coming to an event near you. If you see an opportunity, just send me an email at advocacy@jdrf.org and I will connect you with your local coordinator. It is that simple!

Just by reading the paper, you can help make a difference for those that are affected by type 1 diabetes in your local community. One thing to note: meetings at community events can come together rather quickly, so it is important to stay informed of Promise Campaign happenings. Make sure you don't miss out on the chance to tell your Member of Congress what it is like living with type 1 diabetes during this recess: sign up to attend a Promise meeting and you will be the first to know! If you are interested in coordinating a meeting, you can also let me know by sending me an email. Let's get this recess swinging!
