I live in this tiny town called Wisconsin Rapids, its far from being in the middle of nowhere land, but there is absolutely nothign to do! plus, being a type 1 diabetic and living in such a small town, it gives me a smaller chance of having kids my age with diabetes to live here. I am greatly effected by the lack of diabetics in my town,I have friends that live hours away with diabetes, but most days its not possible to just jump in the car to go see them for a day or two. So, what im asking is, does anybody else have the irritatiing feeling of being one of the few diabetics in your school or town? I mean, Wisconsin Rapids is soo small and full of older people, that the education classes and suppot groups that we have, are for type two because none of the older people have type one diabetes! Im not mad at the city for having a lack of type one diabetics, but, i am hoping that in the near future, they start some type of support group for type ones. Places like Milwaukee and Appleton have huge groups! Whatever makes those groups so great, that people from around the state want to travel to them, why cant Rapids try to follow in their footsteps to tsttempt the same ideas?
Has anybody ever tried to start a support group in their town? and if so, how did you do it?!
