Doc says I am still honeymooning and that I dont need to take any insulin or meds right now. My a1c is low 6's. I guess I am lucky so far? I am 35 now. I completely changed my diet and excercise habbits when I was diognosed and feel the healthiest I have ever been in my life!

To say it has been crazy would be the understatement of the century. I have been very hesitant to reach out to any group, chat on any network, or blog through various support sites because i simply do not want to accept this. What is so disorienting is how seemingly unfazed he is, while i am broken and brittle to the world. Is this normal? He has made very little fuss about the needles, diet, or whatnot. On one occasion, he declared (with a true matter-of-fact tone) that being sick sucks. ??? i am bracing for a real sense of sorrow and anger or pity, but NO. It makes me feel as though i am the one blowing this out of proportion. Certainly i am not.
So i have a son that is now 2, they never found gestational diabetes, And then this came on really fast and all of a sudden. So i mainly wanna know where does it come from, i know that i didn't get it because of something I've done but it's hard not to feel like that when it just happened all of a sudden.

Iknow many people with D have had healthy happy babies, but what scares me is we were thinking about having another baby next year. What do you do if you have a few bad days and your sugar levels are wacky, will that cause the birth defects in the baby? how many days of high sugar would it take before birth defects happen?

Today i have the stomach flu or something and it really got me down all day, i just feel like my bodyi s just falling apart and that no matter what i do right now that i can't fix it. I was at my diabetic nurses office today and she told me to come back tomorrow if i still feel bad and try to see dr (he wasn't in today)

So on those days when you get discouraged how do you get yourself up and positive about your situation? Not to mention on top of already feeling like a failure today the nurse told me that i am a very good candidate for a pump in the future. Now i haven't even been diagnosed for a month yet, that's a scary thought!!!

I go see an endo July 5, should i just keep these questions til then. are they really good about explaining things well?

Thanks

We have had great success at home, but at school his numbers are all over the place. It is very confusing, and frustrating. I am lmost ready to pull him out of school to homeschool him just to control his numbers more. This is something I don't want to do because we are trying to keep his routine as norml as possible. Any ideas?

RETAIN Trial for Newly Diagnosed Type 1s

Did anyone see this post today about the RETAIN trial?

A new clincial trial for newly diagnosed type 1s. Right now its open to 16-35 year olds (diagnosed within the past 3 months), and those who participate in Part I are guarenteed to get the study drug, ATT, as opposed to a placebo. Enrollment should open up to people down to age 8 in next few months. Might be worth looking into...

HoneyMoon

Ok so my son was dx on 12/27.....and no sign of a honeymoon, is all hope lost...He had a few days early last week when we was in range 3 days straight, and we thought he was on his way. Now the past couple days he has spent most of his days at the higher end or out of range...Any thoughts???

Clinical Trials

Is anyone considering a clinical trial for newly diagnosed Type 1 diabetics?

my 5 year old was just diagnosed

Hello,

My 5 year old son was just diagnosed 5 days ago with type 1 diabetes. It was such a shock!

3 weeks ago he fell and broke his arm and had to have surgery, pins, cast, etc. At this time he started to not sleep so well, and started peeing the bed on and off. Well it just so happened that he had a well visit this past monday and we mentioned the peeing of the bed. The dr took a urine test and his glucose was over 500 and he sent us right to the ER and sure enough he has diabetes. We caught it very early.

I understand all the math and equation part of this but the problem I am having is the snacks between meals. It is almost impossible to find snacks for a 5 year old that are under 5 carbs! If anyone has any snack suggestions that are under 5 carbs I would really appreciate it!!! thx
