Camp Kudos is a Diabetes Camp in the Fort Mill/Charlotte area. This is my 5th year going and I absolutly love it! I would recommend it to anybody!

Fun ideas for diabetes education?!

I need help coming up with fun ideas for summer camp! As the diabetes education instructor, it's my job to teach campers things they don't already know about T1D and still have fun doing it. Water games, slip n slides, building things and a little friendly competition are always good to incorporate, but I'm not sure how they can coincide with diabetes..

Any thoughts?

I wanted to see if anyone one here when to camp najeda when i did. I got type one when i was 7 and 1st year at camp was 8. I am 28 now. Let me know if anyone is going or has gone to this camp. I think it was the best years of my life.

The JDRF community is saddened by the loss of beloved Camp Hodia director Don Scott, who died in a hiking accident on Wednesday, August 10th, while hiking with friends and family in Wyoming. Don was a great support to children with type 1 diabetes over the past 35 years and will be greatly missed by all.

Here in 22 days I will be at Camp Hertko Hollow (Iowa diabetic camp) as a CIT! Its my last year as a camper and I have mixed feelings about it. I am nervous about having to set an example for the younger campers and im excited to share my knowledge with them. its hard to explain!

But gosh! 22 days :) its coming up soon!

Gales Creek Camp

Hey Everyone...

My son, Quinton, who is 12 years old is going to Gales Creek Camp in Oregon next week. I'm VERY nervous about him going off for a week. Has anyone here had experience with this camp? What are your thoughts?

On another note: He was signed up to attend a local YMCA camp. However, I've called and called the camp director to talk to them about his special needs and they wont return my calls. I got ahold of a young girl once who told me "I'm sure it will be fine, we can change his food". She wouldn't listen to me when I was trying to explain that he needs time to give insulin, etc. I wanted to talk to the nurse, but she wouldn't allow me to do so. Have you guys experienced this before? How do you deal with it?

He's never been away from home, or even us, ever. I really feel it's important for him to experience some independence in a safe environment with other kids he can relate to.

How do these camps manage pump site changes if the child can't do it themselves? Or carb counting if they still are 100% independent at it?

Any experiences you could share would be most welcome!

This was an awesome camp experience! My daughter and son attended the camp as campers and I volunteered as a Nurse Practitioner at the camp. I only get one week vacation per year and it wasn't necessarily the most luxurious of vacation spots (sweaty and smelly the second you got out of a shower) LOL but I will definitely be there again next year to "give up" my vacation time! Every single child at this camp was absolutely wonderful! I figured out why after a few days. I realized that every child at that camp was completely and utterly loved by their families and their confidence, strength and fortitude emanated from their very presence. No camper request was denied, just tweaked for safety. It was all about what they could do, not what they couldn't do. It was a truly rewarding experience and I am very appreciative of the experience.

I haven't been to any other camp, but it's pretty neat -- a week of free freedom's not something I'd complain about :)

Anyone else been there/goes there?
