Anyone from the Barrie area?

Anyone from the Barrie area or Toronto and surrounding areas, please contact as I would love to give and recieve support from someone in my area. I had posted an ad on kijiji as I am willing to do casual babysitting for children with T1 and am surprised to have no responses! I would have loved this when my daughter was little as finding daycare could be difficult at times and it was so hard to explain everything involved with T1 to a daycare provider. I can't count how many times I would tell the babysitter that my daughter has T1 and they would respond "That just means she can't have sugar right????" Ugggghhh...so frustrating!!!!! Anyone who is needing a casual babysitter in this area who is experienced with T1, please contact me. Also contact if you need support or want to talk to someone who knows what you are going through!

is this a donation and awareness site for canada as well? i think that i would like to consider contacting a group of t1d's and their families to do our own campaign that supports and benifits canadians with t1d directly as i dont believe this does.

Help for daycare/schooling of a Diabetic Child

I can't believe how hard it is to find anyone willing to look after a diabetic child. The lack of help for ANY and ALL organizations to help with families and even single parents to get help to look after their children. My fiance who had to quit her job 2 1/2 years ago when her child was first diagnosed. Just finally went through $2k of training to get work and just started work this week. To find out her daycare wants $18k over the next 6 months for the "extra" care her child gets. Her funding ran out that she was getting and is now facing having to quit her job yet again to stay home to look after her child. How is she suppose to care for her child and not work?? There are no groups in the Greater Vancouver area that seem to want to help. We can't get ANY answers out of any foundations on where to turn to.... it's sad to think that there are SOOOOO many families in this same situation and everyone turns a blind eye to it.

Hello JDRF Canada followers, just curious where everyone is from?, and also, if you're a parent of a type 1 diabetic does your child have any friends with diabetes as well??, I'm from Milton Ontario, my son is 5 years old, and to the best of our knowledge theres is nobody his age in this town with it, theres a local social network for Milton Moms that my wife had joined and had no responses when she asked the question does anyone have a child with diabetes, I ask this becasue it would be so beneficial to Jesse to hang out with someone with the same affliction, everytime I see or hear a celebrity with type 1 diabetes eg. Bret Micheals, Nick Jonas I make it a point of telling Jesse, just so he has a role model to look up to, and with Krystal Bowersox from A.I. last year, and learning George Canyon has diabetes recently the role models just keep coming, but again it'd be nice to have Jesse hang with a peer...

I just discovered this site and I really like it. I am a parent to a boy with T1 and also a student. My thesis relates to parenting kids with T1 - check it out on the 'research projects' group if anyone interested in participating :)
