Hello everyone!

I am senior economics student doing research for my thesis on type 1 diabetes.  If you are a parent of a juvenile diabetic or a juvenile diabetic please take ten minutes out of your day to answer my anonymous survey: https://tcnj.qualtrics.com//SE/?SID=SV_3EjVhXGFYZxBpME.

Below is some information on my thesis:

Title: The Effects of Nutrition, Environment, Lifestyle, and Previous Health on the Onset of Type 1 Diabetes
Abstract:
This paper investigates non-genetic factors that influence the onset and/or risk of type 1 diabetes.  In order to develop type 1 diabetes, both certain genes need to be present as well as environmental triggers.  Past literature has identified these triggers and include introduction to cow’s milk, gluten, breastfeeding, insufficient vitamin D and fish oil, stress, obesity, viruses, and antibiotics.  Some of these factors have unclear associations with the onset of type diabetes and this thesis attempts to further understand these relationships.  Additionally, I will use these associations to promote cost savings for the individual as we as the national medical costs through the promotion of alternative medicine.  By examining which factors may trigger type 1 diabetes, alternative medicine prior to diagnosis can play a role in reducing the incidence rates while after diagnosis reducing symptoms and costs.

Thank you,

AnnMarie
