I just got diagnosed with diabetes on April 6th 2011 while serving in the U.S. Army overseas in Iraq. Since this time last year the Army has been working on medically discharging me from service. I have just found out finally that I will be out of the Army before May 2nd. I will be moving back to the area after leaving almost 9 years ago. I know very few people in the Capital area and would like to possible make some friends that know what I am going through with T1.
Welcome back to the area! Or almost, anyway. When are you moving?
We have a pretty good group here. You already found the AT1 group website -- it's on Facebook, too, at www.facebook.com/.../203000687092. There was just a lunch gathering this past weekend, and we seem to do stuff maybe once a month or so. There's also an AT1 Walk for Diabetes team. I can't do it this year because I'll be out of the area on June 9, but again, check out the Facebook page for details -- a fair number of people are doing it and it would be a great way to get connected with other people who understand what you have to deal with on a daily basis.
Ha! I see you already found the FB group. Still, consider joining the walk team, and definitely come out to the next HH.
