The app where you can save your "favorites" sounds like it would be helpful for me.

I have considered making a gf carb counting app, but the $99 posting fee for the iTunes store is a barrier. Doctors have to be very careful about what they endorse, as they can be sued for a simple thing. It would have been nice for your doc to make sure you understood her comments about the DQ8 allele and the seeming double talk.

Forum Post: Re: Getting Diagnosed

I don't officially have celiac. Both my parents have gluten intolerance and our family doctor told me that it would help if I didn't eat is as well. Since I don't even have a gluten intolerance I "cheat" when I'm with friends but at home, everything is gluten free. There's a lot of stuff out there that's gluten free. Heads up, there's also a ton of stuff you wouldn't think would have gluten but it does. Spices, soy sauce (there is a gluten free version), canned soups, and some other canned products. Hope you feel better and let us know how it goes.

Forum Post: Re: how to ask

It has just been "officially" determined that there is another classification of gluten intolerance called "gluten sensitivity". You have similar symptoms as a celiac but your tests come back negative. I think that's where I fit in as I have all the symptoms listed in gluten sensitivity but my blood tests came back negative. All I know is that my worsening GI symptoms went away every time I cut gluten out of my diet and they returned once I started eating it again. It finally all went away when I decided to finally go gluten free last Dec. I figured eating something with gluten once in a while shouldn't be a problem but boy was I worng. Had a piece of rye bread at a diner and the symptoms came back in full force and took several days to clear up. No more cheating for me!

Forum Post: Re: Introducing myself

Hey, that must be frustrating! Just came across this- my husband (type 1) and nine year old daughter (non-diabetic) are gluten intolerant. I JUST found Amazon has a gluten free section and it has these "care packages" and all your favorite items you can buy in bulk. I can't give you any reviews on it personally, going to try it this week but it looks like a great combo of all the things they snack on all week. Check it out. I am going to actually order a package to be shipped to my husbands hotel when he travels the end of May. It should alleviate him having to try to "find" Gluten Free snacks in Vegas and hopefully help keep his blood sugars stable.

Hope it helps!

-Veronica

Forum Post: Re: Diabetes & Celiacs

If your daughter wants sandwiches, a really good pre-made bread is Udi's. I like it because it is good either toasted or not and people can't tell it's gluten free. I first found it at a gluten free market but you can order it online as well. Amy's also has some really good gf frozen dinner options.

Forum Post: Re: might have allergy??

Yahh myy moms making me stay on the diet only because myy blood is alottt better!!! they never did a byopsy (idkk how you spell it) all they did was the blood test and it showed positive but they said it could be wrong but my mom had me go on the gluten free diet before they ever did the byopsy soo its too late now but o well... && about the symptoms they said that they might have caught this early enougph so that I never got symptoms soo that might be why me && you never got symptoms!!

Forum Post: Re: inspiration for the overwhelmed

Hi,

My 8 yr. old son was diagnosed with T1 and Hypothyroidism in 03 (age 2) and was diagnosed with Celiac in Dec. Hard. We all went Gluten Free. Being so new to this we still need to work out some kinks. I found an excellent blog by the name of " Gluten Free Steve". At this site I discovered the Triumph Dining web site which has these beyond helpful books. Gluten-free shopping Guide, Gluten-Free Dining Guide and the Dining Cards which you present to chefs/cooks when you decide to dine out. His blog has lots of helpful information so please visit. I discovered it by accident when I googled to see if Smuckers jelly is GF in tears. Also Facebook is a good place to check out reviews on which GF brands and whatnot taste good and general information about Celiac. I stay calm with my son and REALLY listen to his likes/dislikes with this food so HE is in control of this. I feel I don't I will bring on anxiety and really compound this situation when all I need is creativity and patience. Hope this helps. BTW I was told to keep a strict food log for at least a couple weeks because insulin will need to be adjusted.

Group: Celiac Disease and Diabetes

Post questions, concerns and support about living with celiac disease and diabetes.

Forum: Celiac Disease and Diabetes
