Has anyone ever found a good resource for carb counting that includes gluten free options? Apps for phones/ipod, or books? When looking up carb information on the go, most of the apps I've come across have VERY limited info on gluten free foods.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever found anything that is helpful!

Went to a gastro doctor and put me on a Gluten-Free diet for the past month now and have felt a difference. It is genetic since my grandma has it. Tomorrow I am going in the hospital to get an Endoscopy in the morning and im kind of nervous about whats going to happen. I was told to disconnect my insulin pump the morning of, but im especially nervous that something will happen while im under, like my blood sugar going low. Has anyone had one done and can give me any advice? I couldn't isolate any one thing that was causing my digestive issues. One night I had 3 pints of stout (my very favoritest beer) and woke at 4:15 the following morning with all the symptoms. I had no idea what celiac disease was, but saw an article on Yahoo about the rise in celiac disease. I saw the symptoms and it freaked me out. I asked my endo for the blood test (she's awesome), and I went to get the test, it came back negative (if I'm reading the results correctly).
Now I gotta find the reason behind these digestive issues......I think I am going to eliminate wheat and gluten from my diet to see if maybe I have developed an allergy to wheat. It really isn't my favorite food anyway, it's just in EVERYTHING. It'll probably kill me, but I may experiment with eliminating dairy as well. I don't think it is a dairy issue, as I have symptoms without dairy and occasionally dairy without symptoms. I just don't know what it could be. Very confused.

Does Gluten Affect BS?

When I eat anything containing gluten, I have GI issues, cramping, bloating, and joint pain, so I think I may have Celiac's Disease. I've been gluten-free (and symptom-free) since mid-April, until about 3 weeks ago. I'm supposed to continue to eat gluten until my endoscopy in October. And for the past couple weeks, my BS has been crazy high a lot - for no apparent reason. I've asdjusted my scale, but I've still been getting a lot of random highs.

Basically, I'm wondrering if these weird BS readings could be due to Celiac's Disease.

He tested negative on your basic allergy tests, but he stills has constipation and stomach pains and even sore muscle/ joint complaints. Well, today we went to the GI doctor to get the results for our endoscopy and tissue cultures. They say he is negative on the biopsy reports, but that he is positive for DQ8 allele. I asked what that meant, and the doctor said something to the effect that he is not diagnosed because the negative tissue results, but that with the diabetes AND his symptoms he may very well develop it. i asked if i should start a gluten free diet and she said that wouldn't put him on it because he still isn't a celiac by medical terms (positive tests) but that anything to help would be a good idea. !? i don't understand what that meant. As she was leaving and praising Zach for being healthy and well-behaved, she casually stated "....we are going to eat healthy and feel better. and we know that with diabetes we can celiac, and it's not the worst thing in the world. schedule a follow-up in 6 months unless he starts bloating or getting constipated again, and then call us." HELP! what the crap does 'allele' or 'DQ8' or 'he has the symptoms and the genes, but not the diagnosis' mean!?

Getting Diagnosed

Hello all,

I've already found that i am allergic to milk and many of my painful symptoms of food allergies has disappeared such as painful hand rashes and blisters, neurological problems, and joint and muscle pain and stiffness.

However after being able to talk with a dietitian at diabetes camp (because my insurance dietitians are not real) and telling her my story she she was pretty concerned that I should also get tested for celiac. Turns out my grandmother died of an upper large intestine cancer almost in the small intestinal tract. My mother is about to be investigated for the same problem =S. She also gets headaches when she eats wheat. And me, I'm just constipated (twice a week going) and still have eczema.

I want to ask my doctor for a test because if I can keep from getting cancer I'd like to. But I don't wanna sound to dramatic because I don't have major symptoms =p any advice?

newly dx where do you start?

Hi My daughter and myself were dx about two weeks ago. My stomach hurts everyday and am so tired!! Where do you start? Is there a book anyone likes. My son is also diabetic , he is tested yearly for celiac but so far it has come back negative. His stomach hurts all the time, I swear he has it too. Thanks Tara

inspiration for the overwhelmed

Hi there.
